The need

UNSW Canberra recently launched a new Drupal 8 Faculty website. UNSW Canberra staff were going to be drafting and uploading web pages.

The UNSW Canberra Communication / Creative Media Team needed a communication specialist to help them develop their beginner learning material. The goal was to create documents and slide decks for Faculty teams as well as the Communication team to use.

Our solution

To complete this project, Claire worked with the communication staff and the current web manager.

Claire:

  • reviewed existing training material
  • produced four beginner guides in document form, including graphic design advice
  • created sets of accompanying slides
  • provided advice on the ‘training information architecture’ that could be useful for staff
  • provided advice about staff profiles.

The four high-level ‘Beginner Guides’ covered:

  1. Writing for the web
  2. Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
  3. Tone of voice
  4. Brand expression.

Results

The guidelines were rolled out across the university and used by hundreds of staff.

Claire worked with UNSW Canberra to develop a series of training resources for the University’s website editors, equipping them with the skills necessary to effectively write for the web.

She demonstrated strong attention to detail and created resources that encapsulated writing for the web basics and search engine optimisation, as well as the University’s tone of voice, brand, and style guide.

Claire’s work was highly valued during a very busy period for the media and content team. She is efficient, flexible, and organised and these resources will continue to be used by our web editors into the future.

It was wonderful to have an experienced, professional communicator who could help us with a major project during a very busy period for the University.

I would happily work with Innovate Communicate again as it was an easy process and reassuring to know that a major project for the University was in safe hands.
